This is the tattoo I plan on getting when I graduate from the fire academy. This tattoo to most people is just a firefighter with a flag behind him, but in my eyes it has tons of hidden meaning that people don't notice. Such as the "343" on the helmet, 343 is the number of firefighters who payed the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty at the World World Trade Center September 11, 2001 . The banner that says brotherhood represents the bond we have with each other, how we'll have each others back no matter what, through thick and thin. This tattoo to me is going to be my permanent reminder of what the service is all about, besides fighting fire. |
In the early hours of Sunday the 21st of February, a refugee center in Bautzen Germany erupted into flames from a possible arson attack. The 60 firefighters on location need police protection throughout the attack to protect them from angry citizens who were happy to see the building burn. This was just 1 successful arson out of the 1,000 or more attacks on refugee centers across the country. The actual cause of the fire is still under investigation, due to the fact the arson is the hardest crime to prove. Friday February 5th a crawler crane collapsed around 8:30 am in lower Manhattan while workers where lowering it to secure it due to high winds. Residents had to be evacuated from buildings around the crash site due to the fear ff a major natural gas leak. The crane crashed down onto several parked cars killing one man and injuring 4 others, 3 of them have serious but non threatening injuries. Debris was seen as far as two city blocks away. The FDNY have been sweeping all the surrounding buildings, every 15 minuets to check the natural gas levels. So far the levels have not been high enough to raise any fear. It will take till about Monday till the area is back to normal. What made the crane's integrity fail? How would you react if you saw this? How do you clean this big of a mess up? Cherry Hill Fire Dept. was dispatched to the dwelling fire on the 400 bock of Sheffield Rd. January 28th around 10 am. Firefighter arrived on scene within 5 min of being dispatched with heavy smoke blowing out the side and rear windows of the 2 story dwelling. An occupant was reported to still be inside. Crews attempted to make entry but were forced out by heavy fire and had to make a defensive attack. A crew entered the house after they got a handle on the fire to search for the occupant, and they found her in a second floor bedroom. The victim was turned over to EMT's and was later pronounced dead at Kennedy University Hospital. The 3 firefighters that found the victim were also transported to the hospital for minor burns. |
