My tattoo (pictured left) to most people is just a black american flag because they don't know the meaning of the thin red and thin blue line on the middle stripe. The thin red line represent fallen firefighters and the thin blue line is to represent fallen police officers. This tattoo is my tribute to all fallen police officer and firefighters, especially those 703 brave men who gave their lives on September 11th 2001, 343 of those were firefighters and 60 were police officers. The tattoo to all together took about 4 and a half hours, and only cost me $200 usually a tattoo that took as long as this on did would cost about $675 because the artist I went charges $150 per hour, but a guy from my firehouse has been friends with him for 20+ years so he gave me a deal. The pain wasn't that bad in the beginning but buy the last hour it was horrible but I pushed through and got it all done in one session. |

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I just don't "get" tattoos. Clearly. this is your passion and instead of wearing it on your sleeve, you're literally connecting the image to your flesh. They say that as teenagers we are, more or less, the people we will be in middle age. THanks for sharing your tattoo story.

I have seen that flag near a fire department near my house, and once in awhile, the red flag would be hung up in front of the garage where the trucks come out. I thought about and this and always wondered, but I relearned of what those colors mean, and would also like tothank you for your service, and the fallen that you pay tribute to.
