Around 2000 hours March 7th, 2016 Trooper Sean Cullen was struck by a car while on the scene of a vehicle fire on I-295 mile marker 23 in West Deptford. Trooper Cullen was airlifted to Cooper Hospital and was later pronounced dead at 0030 hours. This is a prime example of why we have the move over law that the 22 year old driver obviously ignored even with all the flashing lights from police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks. He was on the side of the road trying to help the assist with the car fire and ended up paying the ultimate sacrifice. This death also hits close to home because it turns out Ms. Hafner went to school with him and actually knew him. Trooper Cullen is survived by his Fiancee, 9 month old son, Mom, Dad, his 2 brothers and sister. Sleep Easy Brother. |
In the early hours of Sunday the 21st of February, a refugee center in Bautzen Germany erupted into flames from a possible arson attack. The 60 firefighters on location need police protection throughout the attack to protect them from angry citizens who were happy to see the building burn. This was just 1 successful arson out of the 1,000 or more attacks on refugee centers across the country. The actual cause of the fire is still under investigation, due to the fact the arson is the hardest crime to prove. Friday February 5th a crawler crane collapsed around 8:30 am in lower Manhattan while workers where lowering it to secure it due to high winds. Residents had to be evacuated from buildings around the crash site due to the fear ff a major natural gas leak. The crane crashed down onto several parked cars killing one man and injuring 4 others, 3 of them have serious but non threatening injuries. Debris was seen as far as two city blocks away. The FDNY have been sweeping all the surrounding buildings, every 15 minuets to check the natural gas levels. So far the levels have not been high enough to raise any fear. It will take till about Monday till the area is back to normal. What made the crane's integrity fail? How would you react if you saw this? How do you clean this big of a mess up? Cherry Hill Fire Dept. was dispatched to the dwelling fire on the 400 bock of Sheffield Rd. January 28th around 10 am. Firefighter arrived on scene within 5 min of being dispatched with heavy smoke blowing out the side and rear windows of the 2 story dwelling. An occupant was reported to still be inside. Crews attempted to make entry but were forced out by heavy fire and had to make a defensive attack. A crew entered the house after they got a handle on the fire to search for the occupant, and they found her in a second floor bedroom. The victim was turned over to EMT's and was later pronounced dead at Kennedy University Hospital. The 3 firefighters that found the victim were also transported to the hospital for minor burns.
Hothouse by Chris LynchWorking Fire by Zac UngerThis book is all about how to be a good leader in the firehouse, how to be a good lieutenant, captain, chief, etc. This book appeals to me because I have a dream of one day being an officer in the Fire Dept. and this book may help me get there, grant it it will be at least 5 years from maybe more than that before I even have a chance at becoming an officer, but this book will help me pave that way.
